·         Visit the NHCL web site, and see the updates that Darryl Krauch recently made.  From Darryl, “Hi Everybody! I just did a quick sweep of the NHCL web site…I added a "Weekly Updates" button where I put Flo's weekly updates! The buttons for "Events, News, 2010 Pictures" I moved to the left and noted as "under construction" if you were to click on them. I would like to make some kind of forum, maybe on Facebook, as our Server doesn't support any kind of user forum. The Facebook link could be a new button on the web site? Anybody interested in an NHCL Facebook forum of sorts?”

·         February 2, 2010.  Tuesday, 7:00 PM regular NHCL meeting.

o    President Matt Asay has the first forum of the New Year lined up.  Information from the city of Hampton Neighborhood Office on free grants will be discussed.  This could benefit your neighborhood and other neighborhoods.  Have you ever considered some curb appeal for your neighborhood entrance? Come on out and hear about the grants.

o    On January 18, 2010, President Asay emailed out a survey concerning alternate dates for the League’s regular monthly meetings, other than the first Tuesday.  Come on out to the meeting to hear the results.

·         WELCOME NEW MEMBER!!!     Welcome to Hazel Proctor.  Everyone just calls her Haze. She is also the neighbor of Selvin and Samara Walker. Also, welcome to Anita Harrell who joined in  late 2009; actively participated in the December 09 social and communicating with Darryl on the league's web site.

·         Month of February Birthdays (your birthday will be recognized for the whole month.  Allows time for members to extend you Birthday wishes as well as others a chance to get their names in to the secretary).

·         Membership renewals:  Do you know if your membership has expired or not?  Usually a new year coming in is a big clue.  When you sign in at the meetings, check the sign in sheets for your expiration dates.  Also check with Samara Walker, Treasurer and make sure your membership dues ($10) are current.

Other winter weather safety tips include:

Do not drive unless it is absolutely necessary.  If you must drive, wear a seatbelt.
Avoid overexertion during clean up.  Shoveling snow or pushing a car can bring
on a heart attack or make other medical conditions worse.
Supply your car with an emergency kit that includes water, food, a battery-powered
radio, blankets, flashlight and extra batteries.

For those citizens that are not signed up to receive alerts, now is the perfect time to do so with the approaching winter storm.  Visit http://www.citizenobserver.com to sign up!
