To provide Northampton community citizens a means to serve their community and to influence issues and solutions to problems that affect their quality of life.
WHO WE ARE - People who are eligible for Northampton Civic League membership:
Hampton citizens who live within the Northampton area.
Business proprietors and other organizations operating within our area.
WHAT WE ARE
We exist to serve the community of which we are a part - neighbors looking out for each other.
We are non-partisan, non-commercial, and non-sectarian.
We do not endorse political candidates, political parties, or commercial enterprises.
OUR FOCUS
To represent the concerns of Northampton community citizens on all issues that affect the community's Quality of Life.
To ensure accountability of Hampton City government.
WHAT WE DO
Act as a watch dog on issues relevant to the Northampton Community.
Provide ways and means to enhance your influence with Hampton City managers / authorities on decisions and issues that affect your quality of life.
Provide input to:
- Planning new residential and commercial developments.
- City plans for road upgrading/modifications and new construction.
- Parks and
recreation projects and events.
- School and public safety plans, projects, and events.
NORTHAMPTON CIVIC LEAGUE BOUNDARIES
Bounds: N - York County, W - Newport News City, S - Mercury Blvd (US 258), E - I-64 & Magruder Blvd (134)
Officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer - elected annually by NHCL members.
Any member of Northampton Civic League is eligible to serve as an officer.
Special Committees are appointed, as required, to consider issues and aid in executing Civic League functions.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN THE NORTHAMPTON CIVIC LEAGUE
We act as an enabler for citizens to raise quality of life concerns to Hampton City government.
Together we can have a coordinated and powerful influence on quality of life issues affecting you, your family, and the Northampton community - individually we have much less impact.
We provide a means to monitor city project planning and municipal services performance and to foster openness and accountability in elected and appointed Hampton City officials.
MEMBERSHIP COST
Annual dues are $9.00 for each member.
Dues are used to fund the Civic League newsletter and incidental Civic League business.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR THE NORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY
Instrumental in establishing Sandy Bottom Nature Park and Kraft School neighborhood Park.
Enhanced child safety through improved traffic control at Kraft Elementary School.
Provided input to developers and Hampton City on development projects & use permits.
Participated in planning and implementation of Northampton Community Center project.
Provided input to Hampton City Comprehensive Plan (5-year development plan: residential, schools, land use, transportation, parks and recreation)
Provided input to land use planning steering group for the Todd's Lane and Big Bethel Road corridors.
Influenced City to include recreational bicycle lanes on Hunt Club Blvd.
Influenced City to modify plan making Londonshire Terrace a through bypass to Big Bethel Road.
Helped local businesses in permitting for expansion while preserving community quality of life.
Enhanced public safety by active involvement in attempts to "commercialize" areas immediately adjacent to Bethel High School, Sandy Bottom Park, Thomas Nelson & Big Bethel Roads.
Sponsor periodic cleanup of Kraft Neighborhood Park, and occasionally other Northampton public sites.
POTENTIAL FUTURE ISSUES
The future expansion and use of the Hampton refuse dump (Sanifill landfill).
Public Safety - Enhance fire protection: New Fire Station in the Northern NHCL area - vicinity of Big Bethel Rd - Semple Farm Rd - Saunders Rd - Big Bethel Reservoir.
Increased traffic on Big Bethel Road.
Litter and Noise control.
Other issues deemed important by Civic League members.
